The Govy Cupboard
Our Home Grown and Local Operated Food Bank
The Govy Cupboard sprung up out of a need to provide food for the community when the government shut down of 2025 froze many people's SNAP benefits. Life on the mountain is difficult as is, with many mountain employees living in their vehicles because of inadequate affordable housing. There is also only one small grocery store in town, with groceries at elevation inflation prices. The SNAP freeze came at a particularly difficult time of year for our community, during the shoulder season where a lack of snow and tourism meant significant cuts in hours available for shifts, leaving folks with barely enough money to get by as is. So our locals rolled up their sleeves and got to work.
